Could I be pregnant if i had a negative HPT?

My hubby and I are trying to conceive. I was suppose to get AF on the 7th (yesterday), i took a test last night around 7pm and it was negative. I still do not have AF. I do not have cramping, my bbs hurt, i'm exhausted, the same way with my first child. was it negative b/c i took it at night and should i take in a few days, or should i give up my hopes and why didnt i get my period (which are always regular)
