Dangers of Volunteering in Honduras?
I am a gringo living near La Ceiba and travel about the country and especially La Ceiba without any worry. Most of your fears are groundless. There are areas in every country or even every city where you don't want to go because of the crime. You will be just fine if you are with a volunteer group. The group leaders already know the do's and dont's to keep you out of trouble. There are volunteer groups working all over the country all year long, and they are welcomed and isted by the local population more than you can imagine. La Ceiba is a pretty, friendly city in a beautiful location and you will enjoy the time spent there. About four point three US citizens murdered a year in a country the size of Virginia or Ohio. I wonder how many murders occur in either one of those states per year. As far as overthrowing the leader? He was/is the criminal and and Congress and the Supreme Court of the country were entirely justified in removing him. Don't worry, and don't listen to some of the arm chair travelers who don't have a clue.
