Friend works on car and costs me $200 in excess work...?

That's a real bummer, but not much you can do about ti aside from ask him maybe for a new set of lug nuts. I've never trusted anti-theft lug nuts - I had a couple strip on me the moment I took them out of the box. Just politely talk to your friend (or beat him over the head with a caliper), and see if you can arrange something with him.
