My g/f and I want a pet but we dont know what to get besides a dog or cat. Suggestions?

The apt complex we live in charges a pet deposit +$20 a month for a cat or dog so thats a no. We had an iguana but they are a hle and cant be handled that well. Hamsters are boring. Bearded dragons are great but dont wanna deal with crickets. Rabbits poop to much. Turtles stink. We already have a S/W tank. She hates snakes. So im kinda between a rock n a hard place. Oh and no ferrets they really stink. Birds maybe but they are messy and noisy i think. So what else is there. We want something we can play with and let roam the house but isnt a complete mess and noisy. Ne suggestions? Neone?
