Are pimples supposed to be itchy?

So SUDDENLY I had this REALLY tiny pimple on my face (size of the tip of a toothpick) and it was ticklish so i rubbed it with my hand soon, it just got plain itchy and there it was swollen (slightly) around the pimple. the swollen part was the size of the end of a pencil (not the sharp part of the pencil the end part) so i washed that area with water later, it was still itchy so i gently washed to again and now it does not itch at all but it's still swollen and back to ticklish what is this? i have the same pimple under the swollen one but that one's okay
